چکیده

Slip is defined, in this study, as relative motion between the stump skin and the socket. An excessive amount of slip may lead to abrasive injury, inadequate control over socket position and, ultimately, possible loss of the prosthesis. Conversely, lack of slip may conceivably reflect excessive restraint obtained by too tight a fit; implicit are large stump socket pressures. This study was conducted to measure the extent of slip at various locations within above-knee suction sockets. The range of total slip values encountered in four subjects is given as a function of location within the socket, under conditions of level walking.

Tangential pressure measurements in above-knee suction sockets.

Tangential pressure (TP) , as defined in this study, is that pressure parallel to and located at the socket inner face. The talrgential pressure resultant (TP,) will possess a horizontal component (TP,) directed along an axis perpendicular to the main socket axis and a vertical component (TP,) directed along the main socket axis (see Fig. 1). The plane in which all tangential pressures exist is...

Temporary Below-Knee Prosthetics

In recent decades amputee management has advanced significantly. With the ad vent of blood flow studies and new surgical procedures, more knee joints are being saved. Physical therapists, using ad vanced facilitation techniques such as pro prioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), are better able to restore limb strength, range of motion, and coordina tion. Advances in the field of pros...

Unsteady Magneto Hydro Dynamic Flow of a Second Order Fluid over an Oscillating Sheet with a Second Order Slip Flow Model

Unsteady slip-flow of second grade non-Newtonian electrically conducting fluid over an oscillating sheet has been considered and solved numerically. A second-order slip velocity model is used to predict the flow characteristic past the wall. With the assumption of infinite length in x-direction, velocity of the fluid can be assumed as a function of y and t, hence, with proper variable change pa...

مقایسه میزان رضایت بیماران از اندازه‌های ابعادی سوکت در 3 روش قالب‌گیری پروتز

Below knee amputation, which is noticed as one of the most common lower extremity amputations, is caused as a result of various factors like trauma, disease, or congenital limb deficiencies. In order to take these amputees back to daily life, below knee prostheses are used as an alternate to original limb. Comfort and patients’ satisfaction with prostheses are directly related to each prost...

Some experience with patellar-tendon-bearing below-knee prostheses.

AN THE latter part of 1958, prothetists of the Limb and Brace Section of the U. S. Veterans Administration Prosthetics Center, New York City, were indoctrinated in the technique of fabricating the patellar-tendon-bearing (PTB) cuff-suspension below-knee prosthesis. Preliminary experience encouraged VAPC to institute in the spring of 1959 a form of clinical study. Selection of the patients fitte...
